Manual Therapy

Manual therapy, also known as manipulative therapy, is a physical treatment that is typically used in conjunction with traditional physiotherapy, osteopathy or chiropractic techniques. Our practitioners use their hands to apply pressure on muscle tissue and/or manipulate joints of the body, as opposed to using a machine or device.

Conditions treated with Manual Therapy

Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Sports Masseurs use a combination of techniques to alleviate pain in muscles, soft tissues and joints. These might include mobilisation, manipulation, massage, frictional massage and other manual therapies. The practitioner will assess your condition to diagnose and decide on the best course of treatment for a positive outcome.

Frequently asked questions about Manual Therapy

If a muscle is very sore or recently injured it may be a bit sore to have manual therapy and massage.  The therapist will explain what they are doing and you can tell them if it is too painful to cope with.  Often, if a tissue is tight it will be quite painful to stretch it but there will be benefits after the treatment.

Your therapist may move your joints in specific directions to regain movement and stretch your muscles with massage. They may move the body part themselves or ask you to move against their resistance to improve muscle activation.

You will have to remove outer clothing so the therapist can reach the affected body part. If you would like to wear shorts you can get changed before your appointment.

Blackberry Clinic Doctors and Practitioners are all highly qualified and can treat a huge range of painful conditions.  Check out their profiles to see who can help you but if you are still not sure please call our friendly receptionists who can help you make the decision.
