Elbow Pain

The elbow is a complex joint, allowing both flexion and extension, as well as rotation of the forearm.  There are many muscles, ligaments and tendons making up the elbow joint, any of which can cause pain. Common causes of elbow pain include; fracture, dislocation, bursitis, trapped nerve, golfers/tennis elbow, arthritis or sprains.

Causes of Elbow Pain

Elbow pain is commonly due to an over-use injury. Most manual jobs require repetitive hand, wrist or arm movements, which can result in overuse.  However, age related factors may also be a cause of elbow pain.

Elbow pain can range from a burning sensation, to a dull ache, to severe sharp pain associated with an elbow fracture or dislocation.

The pain may be intermittent or constant and may worsen with forearm movements.

The practitioner will take an in-depth case history, focusing on the onset of the elbow pain. There will then be a physical examination of the elbow. The practitioner will be guided by the location of pain as to which structure is likely to be the cause. Ultrasound or MRI scans may be used.

You can see any of our practitioners for most conditions but check out their profiles for more information and specific interests. Tennis Elbow may respond to a steroid injection, Platelet Rich plasma, Autologous Blood or prolotherapy injections.

Check out our services pages to find out more about these therapies. Practitioners are trained to treat most conditions but do this in slightly different was. The work together to find the best treatment most suited to your condition.

Lorena-Testimonial

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).

Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
