Knee pain can be due to a number of causes. It may come on gradually from overuse or unaccustomed activity or be a sudden onset from a fall or sports injury. Some knee pain will resolve with rest and the use of ice packs but If you can not move your knee or walk properly you should book in for physiotherapy assessment to determine the cause of your knee pain.
Knee pain can be due to a large variety of causes. Twisting injuries, falls or sports injuries are common. If you knee gives way when you are walking this may be due to ligament damage or if your knee locks or clicks your cartilage (meniscus) might be damaged.
Arthritis and ligament injury are the most common causes of knee pain. Sports injuries from impact sports such as rugby can cause ACL rupture or affect the other ligaments of the knee. Joint instability can cause knee pain and stiffness and this can be genetic or as a result of overuse.
A thorough history is taken to find out how the knee pain started followed by a physical examination. If further investigation is required you may be referred for ultrasound scan, x ray or MRI scan. An accurate diagnosis will mean that the most appropriate treatment for your condition will be started as soon as possible. There are many treatments for knee pain all under one roof at Blackberry Clinic.
We suggest you book in with one of our physios for a thorough assessment of your knee. They will determine if you need further investigation or start treatment themselves once they know what is causing the pain.
Check out our services pages to find out more about these therapies. Practitioners are trained to treat most conditions but do this in slightly different ways. They work together to find the best treatment most suited to your condition

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).
Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
Following treatment at Blackberry Clinic, Milton Keynes my back pain improved and I could play for my country again
