Conditions treated with Massage

If you are experiencing pain, tightness, swelling or dysfunction in any of your muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons or nerves you could benefit from treatment. If you have had a car accident, work or sports injury or suffer from ongoing low back pain, neck pain or repetitive strain type injuries please book in for an assessment.

Soft tissue massage is used along with many other techniques to treat injury or pain affecting the muscles and connective tissues of your body. The benefits of soft tissue massage are wide ranging and include muscle relaxation, increased blood circulation and lymph drainage, improved healing time, improved range of motion and joint flexibility. It increases endorphins and decreases muscle spasms.

Frequently asked questions about Massage

If a muscle is very sore or recently injured it may be a bit sore to have manual therapy and massage.  The therapist will explain what they are doing and you can tell them if it is too painful to cope with.  Often, if a tissue is tight it will be quite painful to stretch it but there will be benefits after the treatment.

Soft Tissue Massage can be used alongside other therapeutic techniques to ease tension in the muscles and soft tissues to promote healing and optimise a full recovery. Exercises and stretches will complement and capitalise the effect of hands-on treatment and further address the underlying cause of the pain or dysfunction.

You will have to remove outer clothing so the therapist can reach the affected body part. If you would like to wear shorts you can get changed before your appointment.

We have several practitioners who offer Soft Tissue Massage as part of their treatment for various conditions and if you need further investigations or injections  they can refer you to our Sport & Exercise Medicine Doctors.
