The knee joint is a type of hinge joint held together by internal and external ligaments with cartilage lining the joint and meniscal cartilages aiding in cushioning the joint. Tendons attaching to muscles help to move the joint. As a complex structure, it is prone to injury from falls, trips, contact sports and arthritis.
Common conditions causing pain in the knee include arthritis, torn cartilage, torn or ruptured ligaments, bursitis and patellofemoral pain which is felt behind the knee cap. Patellar tendonitis is another common condition causing pain at the front of the knee. A Baker’s Cyst is felt as a swelling at the back of the knee. Osgood Schlatter Syndrome is common in teenagers with pain felt in the front of the knee.

The Blackberry Clinic physio managed to understand my knee issues very quickly. She identified all the imbalances and weaknesses in my hamstrings that were causing the knee pain. With the right set of exercises I managed to get some strength back and learned how to do the stretches properly to recover post runs. Overall, this was a very good experience for me and the physio was always spot on in her diagnosis.
Many thanks for all your help.
