Pelvis Pain

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) is the term now being used by the medical community to describe what was previously known as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD). It is the name given to a group of symptoms arising from the joints at the front and/or back of your pelvis.

In the UK it is estimated that one in five women suffer with Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) during or after pregnancy.

Conditions Causing Pelvis Pain

Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy can be caused by irritation or inflammation of the joints of the pelvis, stiffness of pelvic joints on one side, or laxity in the ligaments that provide the crucial stability to the pelvic joint complex. Your midwife may suggest you see a chiropractor, osteopath or physiotherapist if they suspect you are suffering from pelvic girdle pain.

They will take a case history and perform a physical examination that will involve looking at your posture and your back and hip movements. They will aim to rule out other causes of pelvic pain such as urinary tract infections, problems of the lumbar spine and Braxton Hicks or labour contractions.  Click on pelvic girdle pain below for more information about treatment for this condition.

Lorena-Testimonial

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).

Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
