Causes of Pelvic Pain

It is very common to have pelvic pain related issues affecting the bladder, back, pelvic girdle and other areas of the body. It is important to determine the cause of the pain with careful examination and history taking.

Our pelvic health physio has training in musculoskeletal conditions with additional training in obstetrics and gynaecology. This gives her a broad understanding of pain states relating to the back and pelvis.

Treatment with a pelvic health physio who is specialised in safe and effective pelvic pain care can lead to relief from pain and return to activity. Early intervention can prevent a problem becoming more acute.

Your physio will take a full history and do a physical examination. Please be aware that this may include an internal vaginal examination depending on your symptoms and diagnosis. Our specialist physio has undertaken advanced training in pelvic health conditions and will explain the process and answer any questions you may have.

This will depend on your condition and what kind of treatment it requires. You will often be given exercises to do at home to enhance your progress and lots of advice so in a way your treatment does not stop when you leave the consultation as your own efforts will influence the outcome too.

The pelvic floor is made up of layers of muscles which support the bladder, bowel and uterus and has been described as a hammock or sling, extending from the pubic bone at the front to the coccyx at the back.

Specific exercises can help to strengthen the pelvic floor where indicated. The pelvic floor is a muscle group that can be too tight or over active and we can offer treatment and teach methods to help let go and relax a tight pelvic floor.

Our pelvic health physio has undertaken additional specialist training to offer safe and effective treatment for pelvic pain.

Lorena-Testimonial

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).

Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
