Frequently asked questions about Pelvic floor downtraining

The aim of ‘downtraining’ the pelvic floor muscles is to reduce muscle tension, in order to obtain better muscle range of movement and hence function. A tight muscle is ‘on’ all the time, and cannot contract and relax normally.

This can be achieved in a number of ways for example through breathing exercises, pelvic stretches, relaxation/mindfulness techniques, yoga and Qigong.

Definitely not; you are likely to feel deeply relaxed and calm when successfully relaxing or downtraining!
