The back is a complex structure of bones, discs, joints ligaments, muscles and tendons which all work together to provide the spine with support, strength and flexibility. You may experience back pain between your shoulder blades (thoracic) or in your lower back (lumbar). At Blackberry Clinic we see all ages and types of patient with back pain and we offer a variety of approaches to try to solve the problem of acute or chronic back pain. Manual therapy is very effective, however, if this does not help, we have Pain Management and Musculoskeletal Medicine doctors who are highly experienced in diagnosis and treatment of back pain.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people go to the doctor or miss work. Most people will suffer from back pain at least once in their life. Conditions commonly linked to back pain include muscle or ligament strain, arthritis, prolapsed disc (bulging disc, slipped disc), facet joint strains, sacroiliac joint strains, inflammatory joint conditions, stress fractures and skeletal irregularities such as scoliosis.
Back pain can come on suddenly or have a more gradual onset accompanied by increased stiffness and decreased mobility. Weight gain and a sedentary lifestyle can lead to back pain but if you experience back pain you should seek advice as to what kind of exercise is safe to do.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).
Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
‘I’ve had back and neck pain for around 5 years and have seen a variety of physios through different referrals. I always get short term relief but no one has ever looked to fix the underlying long term issue of why my problems always come back. Mark was the complete opposite and focused solely on the underlying cause and looked to fix that using Connect Therapy™. The difference after 1 session was remarkable and I woke up without severe back and neck pain for the first time in years. After 6 sessions I was able to lift weights again and the education received through I cannot be more grateful and wish I had discovered Connect Therapy™ earlier.’
We would just like to say thank you so much for his help. She no longer has a wheelchair and is fully independent. After the injections she underwent intense physio as the injections had given her more strength to be able to stand to carry out exercises and also had visceral manipulation which uncovered a few more problems.
