Chest, Ribs and Thorax Pain

The rib cage consists of twelve thoracic vertebrae and twenty four ribs, in addition to the sternum also known as the breastbone. The lungs and heart are surrounded by the rib cage which serves as an important means of bony protection for these vital organs. The thorax is a large part of the body and consists of the thoracic spine and ribs as well as all the muscular connections between them. The ribs come off the thoracic vertebra and attach to the sternum at the front.

Conditions Causing Chest, Ribs and Thorax Pain

A variety of conditions, ranging from pulled muscles to a rib fracture may cause pain in the ribs or chest area. The pain may occur immediately upon injury or develop slowly over time. It can also be a sign of an underlying medical condition. You should report any instance of unexplainable rib cage or chest pain to your doctor as a matter of urgency. Pain in the sternum or breastbone might be costochondritis. Connect Therapy™ and the Thoracic Ring Approach™ focuses on how the thorax works as whole, rather than just the thoracic spine.

Lorena-Testimonial

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lorena has changed my life. Four months ago, having been diagnosed as having “severe, acute and chronic” disc degeneration I genuinely thought I was facing a life of disability (I am 49).

Lorena has re-taught me how to move my body and how to think about what muscles I engage to a point that I am now running, swimming and doing pilates again and have almost full flexibility in my spine. It almost feels like Lorena can see through your skin to your muscles, so profound is her understanding of how the body moves.
