Orthotics are inserts worn inside your shoes with the aim of restoring biomechanical balance to your legs and feet. This serves to realign your posture and any imbalances causing pain and dysfunction.
Orthotics are used to restore biomechanical imbalances in your legs and feet which may be causing heel, foot, ankle, hip, knee or lower back pain. These imbalances can cause you to frequently twist your ankle, give you pain in your shins, crooked toes or painful feet after a few minutes of standing. You may notice that your shoes wear unevenly, this is because you are putting more weight on one part of your foot than another. At Blackberry Clinic we can provide custom made orthotics from physiotherapists who have undergone further training in orthotic provision.
Treatment for acute and chronic sports injuries, arthritis, soft tissue injuries and exercise medicine consultations
You may have undiagnosed pain affecting various joints in your body including your back and you may have noticed uneven wear on your shoes. A physiotherapist or Sports Medicine Doctor may assess that your condition will be improved by correcting an imbalance in your foot alignment and suggest that you try Orthotics.
You may only need one pair to move from each pair of shoes to the next but if you are a keen runner or sportsperson you may need special sports orthotics as well. You can discuss your lifestyle with the physio or podiatrist assessing you and they will help you decide what is the best type of orthotics for you.
