At Blackberry Clinic our pain management and pain clinic consultants are experts in their field. Dr Shyam Balasubramanian has co-authored ‘Chronic Pain Management’ for doctors and allied health professionals as well as medical students.
Here he explains why the book needed to be written:
Chronic pain is a silent epidemic and affects a significant amount of the population. All healthcare professionals and clinicians need to have a basic knowledge of chronic pain. Even simple interventions can make a huge change in these suffering patients by improving their quality of life.
We realised that there is a scarcity of simple chronic pain books that could be used for day-to-day practice in our clinical life. This book covers the basics of chronic pain management that will be useful for all healthcare professionals in their clinical practise. Our aim is for topics to be relevant to multidisciplinary pain clinicians, general practitioners, physiotherapists, psychologists, healthcare managers and researchers who need a simple overview of the key topics in this subject.
The authors are consultants in pain medicine with clinical and teaching experience in University Hospitals in the UK. This book will be an invaluable educational resource for the trainees and the trainers with an interest in learning the basics of chronic pain. It is also a succinct aid for clinical practice.
Scores of copies have already been sold, with money generated being donated to supporting children living in pain.

Dr Balasubramanian said: “This book has very much been a labour of love and covers important topics in chronic pain relevant to many clinicians including, but not limited to, hospital doctors, general practitioners, nursing staffs and medical students.
As well as Dr Balasubramanian, Chronic Pain Management has been authored by Dr Thanthullu Vasu (University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust), Dr Mahesh Kodivalasa (University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust) and Dr Pradeep Mukund Ingle (University Hospitals of North Midlands).
