Christmas can be a pain in the back?! Before you say ‘Bah Humbug’ or accuse us of Grinchery read this blog and see if it resonates with you Christmas Elves!
Although the holidays can be a fun time and enjoyable time with family for those organising and preparing and shopping it can lead to pain in the back! The stress involved to try to get everything done in time, whilst carrying on with ‘normal life’ can be overwhelming. If you don’t want to end up with back pain at Christmas think about incorporating these tips into your planning!
- Wear comfortable shoes if you are going on a shopping marathon! Avoid busy times so you can whiz round quickly. Do some shopping online for heavy items but don’t forget to support our high street shops too.
- Still on the shopping tips, park as near as possible so you aren’t tempted to lug heavy parcels to the car.
- Once you have got all those pressies, set up a wrapping station at a decent height and take frequent breaks! Don’t leave it till the last minute and don’t wrap presents on the floor.
- Make sure you get help lifting decorations out of the loft and take care on the ladder if you are decorating in high places. Don’t over reach.
- Bend your knees if lifting items off the floor, even light items can cause a problem in your back if you are not prepared.
- If you are driving to visit family make sure you take a posture cushion or back support for the car and take frequent breaks
- Don ‘t forget your own pillow if you have a neck pillow to sleep with when staying over at friends or family.
- Long hours of cooking and lugging heavy turkeys in and out the oven can be a strain on the back – get lots of sous chefs to help you! It’s more fun if everyone mucks in!
- Keep hydrated! Many accidents occur after too much alcohol so pace yourself. You will feel better for it and very smug on Boxing Day!
- Keep moving! Too much sitting around isn’t good for anyone. Make sure you take advantage of holiday time to go on some long walks.
Wishing all our loyal customers a wonderful festive season.
