Well done Lisa – a fabulous result!

Lisa Lichfield
Lisa Edwards, one of our physio team at Blackberry Clinic Lichfield has achieved a tremendous feat in  completing the Staffordshire 70.3 Ironman Race last month!
She swam 1.2 miles in Chasewater Lake, cycled 56 miles from Chasewater to Stafford and ran half marathon around Stafford.
She came 3rd in her age group 55-59 yrs for women……. very impressive!
Well done Lisa!!
Here is Lisa’s account of her experience and background in sport.
My name is Lisa Edwards and I am a Physiotherapist at Blackberry Clinic Lichfield and I recently
competed in the Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire.
I was a member of a running club and swam whenever I was unable to run due to lower limb injury
and I cycled to and from work.
An DT colleague at the hospital where I was working in Portsmouth, kept nagging me to take up
triathlon (back in the days when it was a pretty much unknown sport). Eventually I gave in and as
they say ‘the rest is history!’
So I took up Triathlon around 2006. I have competed in numerous races from Sprint all the way up to
full Ironman which is a 2 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and then a full marathon. I have also
competed for GB in my age group.
The distances for a half Ironman as in the one in Stafford are 1900m swim in open water, 56 mile
bike ride through the Staffordshire countryside and a half marathon in Stafford.
.
I have completed this race before in 2016 and 2017 but the route has now changed and the run
takes place in Stafford town centre and involves a lapped course running up to the castle twice. If
you have ever visited Stafford Castle then you will know that it is positioned on a steep hill!
I train 6 days a week throughout the year as I compete in a race every month throughout the
triathlon season but this was my longest race for 2022 and it was rolled over from 2 years ago due to
the Covid pandemic.
Having lower limb injuries in the past and also managing chronic knee pain from DA, I have to make
sure that I implement the advice that I would give my patients, on myself.
The race was tough as the swim was very choppy and busy with other people in the water.
The wind made the bike harder than it would have usually been and the hill on the run was a stinger
but l was pleased with an overall time of 6 hours 31 minutes and a third place in my age group (55-
59 years).
I will return next year to see if I can beat my time!
