Dr Tom Crisp - Milton Keynes

Tom CrispDr Tom Crisp qualified in 1973 and after training started in General Practice in 1980. In 1982 Tom started a sports injuries clinic in Chelmsford and in the same year became the medical officer to Essex County Cricket Club.

In 1986 Tom attended London Hospital Sports Medicine Course gaining his diploma with merit. In 1990 he left GP practice to be a full time musculoskeletal doctor.

Dr Crisp has attended 3 Olympics and 1 Paralympics abroad and worked at London 2012 during both Olympics and Paralympics. He served as Chief Medical Officer to GB team at 3 World University Games in 1990's and was then appointed to International University Sports Federation (FISU) Medical Committee. He was made director of anti-doping to FISU in 2011

Tom has worked in several hospitals and clinics practicing SEM and MSK medicine developing a functioning multi- disciplinary team. He ran a consultant clinic at Royal London Hospital from 1987 till 2002 and attended over 200 monthly evening "Combined Clinics" where difficult patients were managed by the MDT.

Tom audited the treatment of back pain at Bupa clinic in Barbican in 2006 looking especially at the effectiveness of spine injections. He has developed, with a radiological colleague, an innovative treatment for Achilles tendinopathy which now has considerable scientific evidence of efficacy.

Dr Crisp has lectured widely in UK and abroad on many sports and musculoskeletal medicine topics, and am Senior Lecturer in Centre for Sport and Exercise medicine at Queen Mary, University of London and was awarded FRCP in 2011. He has recently been awarded the Bannister Medal for Lifetime Service to Sports Medicine in recognition of his achievements.
