Sam Whiteson, who is one of the physiotherapists here at the Blackberry Clinic, has been appointed to the role of Lead Physio for the Arsenal Ladies football team's tour of Japan, to take place this November.

Sam has been leading the physio team during training sessions for several weeks, working with some of the most celebrated English players in the women's game, and she is very excited to have the opportunity to put her experience with the Northampton Saints Rugby Club to the test in ladies' football.

Arsenal Ladies, who are coached by Laura Harvey, enjoyed an emphatically successful 2010/11 season. They were crowned FA Women's League Champions for the eighth successive season, lifted the FA WSL Continental Cup (the equivalent of the League Cup in the men's game) and completed the treble with a 2-0 victory over Bristol Academy in the FA Women's Cup Final. And as though the trophy cabinet were not already feeling the strain, they won the London County FA Women's Cup, too.

The 11 day tour of Japan, taking place from 25 November to 5 December, is a fundraising exercise in support of the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami Relief effort and will involve three matches, with all funds going to the appeal. The first match will be against the Japanese Women's League Champions, INAC Kobe, at the National Stadium in Tokyo. It will be the Arsenal Ladies' first visit to Asia, having previously toured Africa and the USA.

Clinic Director Simon Petrides, said: “To be appointed by the Arsenal Ladies is a tremendous recognition of Samantha’s abilities as a physiotherapist, and a richly deserved reward for her continued hard work and determination to develop her skills. Everybody at the Blackberry Clinic is delighted for her.”
